Dam Restoration Update

After nearly 8 years of planning and coordination the RLA is preparing to complete the final stage of the work required after the failure of the original sluice gate in Spring 2002.

When the original sluice gate failed in the winter of 2001/2002 the lake started to drain. The leak was plugged temporarily with tarps and boards. In the fall of 2002 the RLA put in place a temporary gate.

There followed an extensive permitting DEP process to put in place a permanent fix. In 2009 the RLA contracted work done to reinforce the concrete on the existing dam and to reinforce areas around the dam.

The final stage of the project will be the installation of the new sluice gate. The work will start in early December and will last about 3 weeks. Prior to the work being started it will be necessary to drain the lake.
